7pm Workshop: Bee Races by Michelle Kish

Michelle Kish is a product designer and manager in the tech industry with a deep and growing passion for plants and animals. For the past eight years, she has been expanding her hands-on knowledge through gardening, raising chickens, and—most notably—beekeeping. Since becoming a certified beekeeper two years ago, Michelle has focused much of her time on caring for her four honey bee colonies, learning directly from them, and creating designs and products for the Raleigh Bee Company. This year, she is looking forward to putting six additional colonies in a new location and exploring new ideas for products made from materials the bees provide.

7:30pm Topic: Splits

Speaker: Frank Bowman of Double B Apiaries

Frank Bowman is the proud father of Kennedy Bowman and a foundational part of Double B Apiary & Farm. With a deep appreciation for nature and a strong belief in hard work, Frank has been a steady supporter of the family’s beekeeping journey from the very beginning. His guidance, encouragement, and hands-on help have played an important role in shaping Double B Apiary into a business rooted in community, education, and care for the honey bees that sustain us.

Double B Apiary manages about 300 colonies and produces over 12 tons of honey annually.  Additionally, they offer Overwintered & Spring Nucs as well as 10-Frame Hives and Hygienic Mated Queens to its customers from their Wake Forest Teaching Apiary located in Wake Forest, NC.
